Pakistan Nuclear Society organized a memorial ceremony on the death anniversary of former Chairman PAEC Late Dr. Ishrat Hussain Usmani at Pakistan Academy of Sciences. Late I. H. Usmani was a renowned scientist and the Chairman of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission in 60s of last century. He as a talented young student obtained a PhD degree in Physics in 1939 at the age of 22 and was one of the youngest physicists ever to qualify for a Doctorate at the London University. He joined the then former Indian Civil Service in 1942. He opted for Pakistan in 1947 and held senior government appointments before joining the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission as a full-time member in September, 1959 and became its Chairman on March 15, 1960.
The memorial ceremony was attended by a large gathering of scientists. Former Chairman NESCOM Dr. Samar Mubarak, former PAEC Engr. Parvez Butt, founding DG PIEAS and Scientist Emirates Dr. Inamur Rahman, Dr. N. M. Butt and other eminent scientists shared the memories about Late Dr. I H. Usmani and highlighted his contributions in building Pakistan’s Scientific programs. A large gathering of scientists, students, academia and PNS members attended the memorial ceremony. On the occasion, President PNS Dr. Tahir Khaliq welcomed and thanks the participants and speakers to join this event to pay tribute to this legend of Pakistan.
