ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif formed an investigative committee to scrutinize the wheat import scheme, the sources close to the development said on Wednesday.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appointed Justice (Retired) Mian Mushtaq as head of the committee to investigate the matter.
The development took place at the moment when the local farmers are suffering due to delay on the part of the government in purchasing wheat from them.
The sources said that the committee would investigate the billions of rupees losses incurred by the national treasury. It would also investigate whether wheat import was necessary or not.
They said that the committee would present its report to Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif within 2 weeks after completing its scrutiny.
