ISLAMABAD – A local court in Lahore postponed the indictment of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader and former chief minister, Parvez Elahi, along with others, regarding their alleged involvement in illegal appointments within the Punjab Assembly.

During the hearing, the defense counsel requested the court to delay the indictment process until they could thoroughly examine the case records.

Parvez Elahi, alongside other accused individuals, appeared before the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) as per the court’s directives. Subsequently, the court decided to defer the indictment of Parvez Elahi and his co-accused, scheduling the next hearing for March 11.

PTI’s Chaudhry Parvez Elahi faced re-arrest shortly after being acquitted of two corruption cases by a separate court. According to an ACE spokesperson, Elahi’s re-arrest pertains to alleged illegal appointments made during his tenure, particularly 12 appointments of grade 17 officers in the Punjab Assembly.

The spokesperson highlighted that these appointments were purportedly made through falsified records, with failed candidates securing positions through fraudulent means.

Moreover, fake testing services were allegedly utilized to favor corrupt officials during the recruitment process.

Parvez Elahi was initially apprehended by the Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) over allegations of appointing Muhammad Khan Bhatti as his principal secretary during his tenure as the chief minister.
