KARACHI – Pakistani neuroscientist Dr Aafia Siddiqu, who has been serving his 86-year sentence in the US, has been sexually assaulted twice during detention, revealed his lawyer.
Lawyer Clive Stafford Smith told Geo News that the Pakistani government was aware of these incidents, adding that Siddique had herself told him about it.
He said a complaint against the sexual assault has been filed.
Smith further revealed that Dr Aafia Siddique was also raped in Afghanistan’s Bagram jail as part of coercive interrogation technique.
On Monday, Aafia Siddiqui had the second meeting in 20 years with her sister Fowzia at a prison hospital in Fort Worth, Texas.
The meeting between both the sisters continued for more than 40 minutes in which Senator Talha Mahmood and Aafia Siddiqui’s lawyer were also present.
Dr Fowzia was scheduled to meet Aafia Siddiqui on December 2 and 3 but she was denied as the authorities claimed to have ‘lost’ the key of the prison.
