ISLAMABAD – Police have removed the name of Pakistani test cricketer Yasir Shah from a case related to the rape of a 14-year-old girl.
His name was dropped from the FIR by Islamabad’s Shalimar police station after the complainant backtracked from her statement, saying the cricketer’s name was wrongly included in it.
The SHO Shalimar police station also said that the cricketer has nothing to do with the assault case that emerged last month.
On Dec 19, police booked Yasir Shah for harassing a girl allegedly raped by his friend.
The FIR was registered on the complaint of the victim’s aunt at Islamabad’s Shalimar police station.
The leg-spinner and his friend, Farhan, had been booked under sections 292-B and 292-C (child pornography) as well as 376 (punishment for rape) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
The complainant said that Farhan took the mobile number of her niece, who is a matric student, when they attended a gathering hosted by Yasir Shah in Lahore.
She said, “I found my niece disturbed and unwell around two or three months after returning from Lahore”. Upon asking repeatedly, the girl revealed that Farhan used to make her talk to the cricketer on WhatsApp.
The complainant said that her niece was returning home from tuition when Farhan took her to a flat in F-11 by a taxi where he raped her at the gunpoint and also filmed the incident.
He also threatened her that if she told anyone about it, he would share the video on social media, according to the FIR. Yasir also told the teenager that he would implicate him in a case by using his influence if he tries to tell anyone about it.
The aunt said that Farhan also blackmailed her niece again and raped her for second time.
The complainant said that when she called Yasir on WhatsApp and told him about the incident on September 10 or 11, he made fun of it and said he liked minor girls.
She said that the cricketer also proposed getting the teenager married off to his friend.
“When I threatened to lodge a complaint with police, Yasir offered to buy a flat for the girl and bear her expenses till she turned 18 if she is married with Farhan.
The aunt further revealed that the cricketer is now asking for a meeting with the teenage girl at his flat in Islamabad. The leg-spinner allegedly told the woman that all matters would be resolved if the girl could please him.
