Pakistan on Thursday reported 46 more deaths due to the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours as the number of positive cases has surged to 511,921. The tally of fatalities jumped to 10,818.
According to the latest figures by the National Command and Operation Center 3,097 persons tested positive for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.
Till now 230,718 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 147,292 in Punjab, 62,377 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 39,624 in Islamabad, 18,488 in Balochistan, 8,540 in Azad Kashmir and 4,882 in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Furthermore 4,348 individuals have lost their lives to the epidemic in Punjab 3,744 in Sindh, 1,752 in KP, 449 in Islamabad, 236 in Azad Kashmir, 188 in Balochistan, and 101 in GB.
Meanwhile, the case positivity rate also shot up to 7.4% – the highest since December 17.
The number of active cases has risen to 33,869 with at least 2,410 patients under critical care — conditions of 44 deteriorated in the past 24 hours only.
Pakistan is currently in the grip of a second wave of infections with a new, more contagious variant of the coronavirus, first identified in the United Kingdom, detected in Sindh.
Sindh has reported 1,235 coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking the provincial tally to 231,953, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said in a statement.
The province also recorded 11 more deaths. Sindh’s death toll from Covid-19 has reached 3,755. mA total of 13,008 tests were carried out in the province during the last 24 hours. Out of the 1,235 new cases, 979 are from Karachi.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan have collectively reported 380 new cases and four deaths, according to figures on the official Covid-19 portal.
KP recorded 359 new cases and four deaths, while Balochistan reported 21 new cases.
Punjab has recorded 767 fresh coronavirus cases and 25 deaths, government data said. The total number of cases in the province is now 147,292 out of which 11,119 are active. About 4,348 people have died from the disease.
