LAHORE – A good news for the passengers as Pakistan Railways announced a 10 percent in train fares on Saturday.
“The fares for all AC classes of express and mail trains have been decreased by 10%. A similar 10% reduction has also been applied to the economy class fares of all passenger trains,” said the official sources within the department.
NEW FARES WILL BE EFFECTIVE FROM SEPT 23
The officials said that this fare reduction will take effect from September 23.
A local private TV reported that railways made a decision to operate 10 passenger trains under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode.
The first phase of privatization, according to the officials, would start soon while10 trains would be handed over to private operators under the PPP mode. The railways had sought applications from the interested parties. The technical bidding would be opened the same day, they added.
Karachi Express, Awam Express, Hazara Express, Bahauddin Zakariya Express, Mehr Express, Sukkur Express, Chenab Express, Mehran Express, Mohenjodaro Passenger Train and Rawalpindi Passenger Train are among those trains which are being considered for privatization, said the report.
