Pakistan keeps petrol prices unchanged, slashes diesel for March 2024

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s federal government slashed the price of diesel and maintained petrol for the second half of March 2024.

A notification issued by Ministry of Finance stated that Petrol will continue to be priced at Rs279.75 per litre, while the price of high-speed diesel has been cut by Rs1.77 to Rs285.56 per litre.

The premium on petrol import saw surge last month but there was no major changes in international oil prices, and exchange rates. In light of the above-mentioned factors, petrol prices were supposed to move up while diesel price could be lowered by less than Rs1 per litre.

It said the government had a cushion to maintain both prices through exchange rate and inland freight equalisation margin (IFEM) adjustments of two projects. The prices of kerosene and light diesel oil are also expected to remain stable.
