ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Army soldiers will be deployed in the upcoming elections as interim federal cabinet approved summary submitted by the Interior Ministry.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the cabinet that was spearheaded by caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar.
It has been learnt that the ministry moved summary as the country’s top polls body sought over 277,000 army personnel across Pakistan to maintain security and law and order situation.
Last month, the electoral watchdog asked for the deployment of armed forces and law enforcement personnel at the polling stations.
With the cabinet’s approval, Army along with paramilitary personnel will perform election duties.
Pakistani authorities have beefed up security across the country as civilians and security forces are being targeted by TTP and other militants.
