Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Australia Babar Amin hosted a dinner in honour of the visiting Pakistan cricket team at the High Commission on Monday, says a message received here from Canberra.
High ranking Australian Government officials, politicians, foreign diplomats, journalists, members of the Pakistani community and cricket enthusiasts attended the dinner.
Welcoming the cricket team to Australia, the High Commissioner highlighted the strong bilateral relations between Pakistan and Australia underscored by common sporting heritage and cricketing ties. He praised the Pakistani cricketing team for projecting the true face of Pakistan and flying the national flag high. He hoped that very soon international cricket will return to Pakistan as the security situation in the country had improved exponentially.
While wishing for the success of the Pakistani cricket team during their tour of Australia, he stated that winning and losing was a part of the game. It was the sportsman spirit that is important.
Waqar Younis, speaking on behalf of the national team, thanked the High Commissioner for hosting the team at Canberra. He also thanked the Pakistani cricket fans for their unwavering support at all times.
Ms. Kate Logan, the Chief of Protocol at Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, in her remarks, wished both teams well and hoped that Australian cricket fans and those around the world would witness a fantastic contest between two of the biggest teams in the cricketing world.
To commemorate the event, a cake was also cut by the High Commissioner, the Chief of Protocol and the Pakistan cricket team management.—INP
