Thatta

During heavy and stormy monsoon rains in Thatta, village Bhia Khan Banbar witnessed the collapse of a hut, resulting in the death of Hussain Babar and injuries to his two daughters. The historical city of Thatta faced significant inundation, affecting various areas, including the main Bazaar, Bukhari Mohla, Shah Mubeen Mohla, Dr Gali, Islampur Mohla, and Aagar Mohla, as well as villages in ward no. 1.

The Great Shah Jahan Mosque’s park was flooded with dirty rainwater from overflowing gutters, causing bad smells and covering grass and walking tracks. The inadequate drainage system led to flooded streams in the old fish market areas and Bazaar, causing financial losses to shopkeepers. Additionally, the heavy rainfall damaged standing crops and caused power load shedding in the city.

The municipal administration faced criticism for its failure to maintain and upgrade the drainage system before the monsoon season. Authorities are urged to take immediate action to address drainage issues.
