A seminar to commemorate National Working Women’s Day was organized by the Sindh Ombudsman Office, “The Protection against Harassment of Women at Workplace,” at the Sindh Government Officers’ Club. The event brought together prominent leaders from various institutions to discuss the role of women in Pakistan’s socio-economic, educational, and cultural development.

Justice (R) Shahnawaz Tariq, Ombudsman for the Protection Against Harassment of Women at Workplace (PHWWP), lauded women’s contributions across all sectors and emphasized the need for a safe and conducive working environment. He highlighted the office’s efforts in combating harassment through public awareness campaigns and the enforcement of the Protection Against Harassment of Women at Workplace Act-IV of 2010.

Justice Tariq encouraged women to report any incidents of harassment and outlined the complaint procedures available to them. Shields and souvenirs were presented to distinguished guests and speakers, including: Judiciary Representatives:

District and Sessions Judges from Karachi South, Karachi East, Malir, and other regions, including Mr. Suresh Kumar, Khalid Hussain Shahani, and others. Advocates and Legal Experts: Muhammad Hasan Akbar (Advocate General Sindh) and Mr. Muhammad Touqeer Randhawa (Advocate High Court). Activists and Advocates: Ms. Nisha Rao (Advocate and Activist), Ms. Marvi Awan (Women’s Rights Advocate), and Ms. Sheema Kermani (Founder of Tehrik-e-Niswan).

Trailblazers: Captain Tarana Saleem (Sindh’s first female pilot) and Ms. Fatima Irfan (Jiu-Jitsu World Champion).

The event also featured individuals championing human rights and gender equality, including Ms. Pushpa Kumari from Tharparkar and Ms. Nazia Naz from the Sindh Human Rights Department. Justice (R) Shahnawaz Tariq concluded by urging attendees to support the mission of eliminating workplace harassment and fostering widespread awareness, particularly among working women, about their rights and protections under the law.
