Pakistani government truly acknowledged victory of Olympic Champion Arshad Nadeem who bagged first gold in track and field category. The star athlete now awarded with Hilal-e-Imtiaz, the second-highest civilian award.
He was honored with the award by President Asif Ali Zardari in a special ceremony celebrating his extraordinary achievement at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The government picked Arshad for this award on August 10, after constitutional provision under Article 259 (2).
For the unversed, such awards are for exceptional achievements to both civilians and military personnel. Arshad distinguished himself by becoming country’s first Olympic gold medalist.
Arshad Nadeem made history with record throw close to 93 meters, crossing previous record of 90.57 meters set by Norway’s Andreas Thorkildsen in 2008. This achievement at the Paris 2024 Olympics marks Pakistan’s first Olympic gold medal since 1984.
His victory is major boost for Pakistan, highlighting the need for better resources for athletes in the country.
