At the invitation of the African Union Development Agency – NEPAD (AUDA-NEPAD), the delegation of the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) led by H.E. Dr. Ahmad Kawesa Sengendo, Assistant Secretary General for Economic Affairs, participated in the Second Dakar Financing Summit for Africa’s Infrastructure under the theme: “Maintaining the momentum towards world-class infrastructure in Africa”, which was co-organized by the AUDA-NEPAD and the Government of Senegal in Dakar, Senegal, on 2nd -3rd February, 2022.

The Summit highlighted the need to scale-up Africa’s mobilization of funds from both the private and public sectors towards priority regional infrastructure projects. It also provided a good platform to engage African leaders, businesses, regulators and policy makers on the challenges and opportunities of infrastructure projects across the African continent.

Within the framework of its participation in the Summit, the OIC Delegation had constructive discussions with the high officials of the African Union (AU) Commission and AUDA-NEPAD on potential areas of cooperation between the OIC and AU towards developing adequate infrastructure, especially in the transport sector, in their common Member States. In particular, the OIC delegation was interested in the infrastructural projects that include or reinforce the OIC Dakar – Port Sudan Railway Project.

The OIC Delegation also shared OIC’s commitment to supporting the infrastructure development efforts of its Member States.—PR
