No Pakistani player as ICC announces nominees for Men’s Test Player of the year award

DUBAI – The International Cricket Council Tuesday announced the nominees for Men’s Test Player of the Year 2021 award.

Unfortunately, no Pakistan player was nominated for the award despite Shaheen Shah Afridi’s thrilling performance in the year. The 21-year-old played nine Tests and took 47 wickets, with an average of 17.06.

ICC’s nominees include a batting stalwart, a spin wizard, an emerging fast-bowling superstar and a dogged opener.

England’s Joe Root, India’s Ravichandran Ashwin, New Zealand’s Kyle Jamieson and Sri Lanka’s Dimuth Karunaratne have been nominated for this award.

Joe Root is top scorer as he made 1708 runs in 15 matches with six centuries while  India’s R Ashwin  is leading wicket-taker, with 52 wickets in 8 matches at an average of 16.23. He also made 337 runs at 28.08 with one century.

Kyle Jamieson of New Zealand has been nominated in the category of emerging fast-bowling superstar. He took 27 wickets in 5 matches at 17.51 average, besides making 105 runs at 17.50.

Sri Lanka’s Dimuth Karunaratne has been nominated in the category of dogged openers as he made 902 runs in 7 matches at 69.38 with 4 centuries.
