Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Governor Haji Ghulam Ali said on Friday that holding elections was the responsibility of the election commission not government, adding that he was not supposed to take any decision regarding the holding of elections.

While addressing a press conference in Peshawar, he said that he was busy with the formation of the caretaker cabinet. “The decision regarding holding of elections has to be made by intelligence agencies and other agencies in the light of the reports of the establishment,” he added. “I will reply to the letter of the election commission according to the Constitution,” he stated.

“Apart from the security matters, there is also an economic and industrial crisis in the country. In my personal opinion, all the decisions should be made according to the Constitution and law,” he pointed out.

“I want a free and fair election. I also want the law and order situation to improve and the economic problems to end with the elections,” he added. “The law and order situation in the province is getting worse due to indifference of the former government. The current caretaker government has to focus on law and order situation,” he stressed.

“It has been said 10 times that the assemblies were meant to reconciliation. One person used to say in arrogance that he does not shake hands with the opposition leader. Now the same person is embarrassing himself in the streets and demanding elections from the previous opposition leaders,” he remarked.

“A three-month course should be conducted for the political training of such people. The federation will pay the full amount of funds to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), but first these people should allow audit of their tenure,” he stated.

“These people will always regret their decisions in the future. These people have to stop rejecting every decision. The politics of allegations is now dying its own death. 220 million people are with the state first,” he asserted. “I have no authority in these circumstances to talk about the election. The state institutions will decide the holding of elections,” he declared.

“They regret every moment of dissolving the assembly and leaving the government.
