New footage of Indian police beating students in Delhi varsity emerges

A new CCTV footage showing New Delhi police beating up students in the library of Jamia Milia Islamia when it went on campus to stop protests against India’s controversial citizenship law on December 15 has emerged, reported India Today.
According to the Indian news publication, the new footage shows cops entering the the university’s Old Reading Hall in riot gear and beating up students who were studying.
The footage which has gone viral, shows students sitting in the reading hall as the Delhi Police stormed and started hitting them with batons and damaging property. The video also shows that the cops continued with their baton charge despite attempts by the students to leave the hall.
The publication reported that the video was released by the Jamia Coordination Committee (JCC), a group comprising students and alumni of the university.
“The CCTV footage shows the brutal act of police forces and how the state-sponsored terrorists are playing the game of brutality on the students of Jamia who were preparing for their examination inside the Old Reading Hall of Library,” said a statement shared by the JCC quoted by India Today.
On December 15 Delhi police forces stormed the varsity in New Delhi after students protesting against the controversial citizenship law.—AFP
