National Electric Power Regulatory Authority will hold public hearing on a petition filed by Central Power Purchase Agency Guarantee Limited on Thursday.
According to the petition, the CPPA-G has sought Rs1.95 per unit increase in power tariff. The Power Division will issue a notification after NEPRA’s decision on government s request.
According to sources, the federal cabinet has approved the increase in electricity prices by Rs 1.95 per unit through a summary circulation and the government had formally announced the price hike two weeks ago.
Earlier, NEPRA had decided to increase the average electricity tariff by Rs 3.30 per unit following requests from power distribution companies, however, the government approved to increase the price of electricity by Rs 1.95 per unit after which the process of hike in electricity tariff is being completed.
It is pertinent here to mention that raising the price of electricity by Rs 1.95 per unit would impose an additional burden of Rs 200 billion on the already suffering people.
