‘Vaccine only way to prevent spread of new variant’ Pakistan recorded 377 new cases of Covid-19

The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Thursday urged provinces to hasten the vaccination process amid the rising trend of the Omicron variant across the globe, highlighting that the anti-Covid jab is the only way to prevent the spread of the new variant.

In Thursday’s session, the forum discussed the epidemic curve chart data, national vaccine strategy and disease prevalence across the country.

The country’s Covid-19 response team was also briefed about the Covid positivity ratio, disease prevalence, number of deaths and new admissions.

The Covid vaccination process across the country was discussed in detail and the NCOC agreed to take strict measures regarding the obligatory vaccination regime.

District wise vaccination targets were reviewed, and efforts were made to engage provinces to achieve the set vaccination targets.

The forum also discussed the total number of vaccines administered, and further procurement of the anti-Covid jab.

They further discussed the status of oxygen production and its nationwide distribution process.

The NCOC suggested the installation of oxygen plants in various parts of the country with a special focus on far-flung regions which face logistical issues.

According to the government’s official Covid portal, Pakistan recorded a total of 377 new cases of coronavirus on Thursday, whereas 8 more fatalities were also recorded.

Pakistan has so far recorded a total of 1,285,631 cases of Covid since the pandemic started.

At least 28,745 people have succumbed to the infection, while as many as 1,242,718 have recovered. 364 people have recovered in the past 24 hours.
