ISLAMABAD – Former Prime Minister and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif addressed the party’s central working committee in Lahore, recalling his meeting with Imran Khan after 2013 elections.
Sharif sheds his light onwards from 90s to 2024 and talks about his tenure as Prime Minister, questioning why his government was ousted when he was elected for the first time.
Nawaz said he was offered $5 billion to leave the nuclear program, which he refused for the sake of nation.
Recalling 2013 elections, he said Imran Khan, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, and General Zaheerul Islam flocked in London when his government came to power in 2018, and despite assurances, Khan agreed to work with the government.
He however accused Khan of betrayal, claiming that PTI chief assured cooperation after the 2013 elections but later held protests upon his return from UK. He further called for accountability of judges who prevented him from holding public office.
He also mentioned Justice Shaukat Siddiqui’s remarks against retired army officials, which led to punitive actions against the judge. Nawaz expressed confidence in Shehbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz, hoping they would meet the people’s expectations during challenging times in the country.
PML-N leader also highlighted that his government did not obstruct the formation of te PTI government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after the 2013 elections. Sharif expressed frustration over his disqualification as prime minister.
Despite the ups and downs, he praised his party leaders for their resilience and noted the party’s improved political standing.
