Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Monday, visited Omar Sharif Park in Clifton, accompanied by Director General Parks Akhlaq Ahmed Yousafzai and other officials. During his visit, Mayor Wahab ordered the immediate cessation of work being carried out under a public-private partnership for the park’s renovation. “Omar Sharif Park has been in a deteriorating condition for a long time,” said Barrister Murtaza Wahab.
He emphasized that the party involved in the public-private partnership must first submit a layout plan before any further work is done in collaboration with Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).
The park was undergoing renovations under the public-private partnership to enhance its aesthetic appeal. Mayor Wahab made it clear that no institution or individual is allowed to carry out construction within KMC parks without proper authorization. He further stated that any renovation work undertaken in the park must be part of an official agreement.
The park will be reopened to the public once its renovation is complete. “All parks, open spaces, and playgrounds in Karachi are a trust of the public,” Mayor Karachi concluded.
