An important meeting of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) engineering department was held, chaired by the Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab. The session was attended by Municipal Commissioner Afzal Zaidi, Director General Works Tariq Mughal, chief engineers from all districts, and other officials. The meeting reviewed ongoing development projects across the city in detail.

Mayor Wahab expressed strong dissatisfaction over the slow pace of work and failure to complete projects on time, reprimanding the engineers for inefficiency. During the meeting, the mayor ordered the suspension of payments to the contractor for the G. Allana Road project, stating,

“No payment will be made to contractors delivering substandard work.” Mayor Wahab emphasized that funds are available for all schemes, and the engineering department must accelerate progress.

He revealed that KMC had received Rs. 2,488 million for 482 District ADP schemes, of which Rs. 700 million have been utilized so far. For 125 Provincial ADP schemes, Rs. 4,250 million were allocated, with Rs. 2,296 million already spent. The mayor instructed that non-performing contractor be issued a 10-day notice and blacklisted, adding that both the contractors and their associated firms should face blacklisting. Mayor Wahab set clear targets, stating that 330 District ADP development schemes and 76 out of 125 Provincial ADP schemes will be completed within this fiscal year. He also directed the installation of aesthetically designed streetlight poles to enhance the city’s appearance.
