Mayor Karachi and Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Waseem Akhtar has once again demanded to declare Karachi ‘a separate province’.
Addressing a press conference today (Sunday) in Karachi, Waseem Akhtar pointed out that the Constitution of Pakistan allows the creation of a new province. “However, public opinion should be taken in this regard by organising a referendum,” he added. Waseem Akhtar further said that the worse administrative situation of Malir and Korangi should be considered as a proof against the provincial authorities after converting it into districts
The Mayor claimed that the provincial government has taken the hold of revenue-generating departments by including institutions into newly-created Keamari district. “The districts are being created on political basis in Karachi,” he remarked.
He also said, “The provincial government is distributing Karachi in order to earn money,” adding that MQM-P had raised reservations over census which allegedly vanished half of the Karachi population.
Replying to a question regarding Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), Mayor Karachi claimed that the civic entity would have performed well if it was provided appropriate resources.
Earlier on Thursday, the Sindh government approved the creation of the seventh district in Karachi. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah approved to make Keamari Town as the seventh district of Karachi.
Akhtar said that the Sindh government wants to earn money after distributing Karachi. He reminded that MQM-P had raised reservations over census which allegedly vanished half of the Karachi population.
While answering a question, Akhtar said that Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) would have performed well if it was provided appropriate resources.
