Nibraz Ramzan, a die-hard cricket fan was pleasantly surprised to receive a phone call and then jersey from fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana.
The 20-year-old right arm-fast bowler Matheesa recently invited his fan and gifted him a jersey as a return of uploading the first ever bowling video of the bowler where he took 6/17 on his debut game for Trinity College, Kandy a few years ago.
Speaking exclusively over the telephone from Kandy, Nibraz Ramzan says, “my video went viral and many websites like ESPN Cricinfo, Wisden & etc took that video from me and published it on their sites and twitter accounts. Those days the Sri Lankan U-19 selection committee were selecting players for the U-19 World Cup, after seeing that video they included him too in the SL U19 squad”.
“After seeing his performance in the WC, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) called him as a net bowler, and he did brilliantly at the nets against the likes of Dhoni, Raina, Bravo etc, and the next year auctioned they picked him to their squad”.
Explaining the chain of the event of this video, he added, “I was watching that game, had cameras from both ends, and recently was the first time I met him after posting that video, and as soon as he saw me came running and hugged me harder for a long time and thanked me, and conveyed his whole family’s thanks to me. We discussed over the phone that somehow we met and finally I got a beautiful jersey from him”.
