KARACHI – The ‘Go Green’ campaign aimed at the plantation of half a million mangrove saplings on 250 hectares by 2025 has entered its fourth year.
The Go Green campaign focuses on planting species like Avicennia, Ceriops, Rhizophora, and Aegiceras in coastal areas of Pakistan to restore the coastal ecosystem.
Launched with the collaboration of WWF-Pakistan in 2021, Hutchison Ports Pakistan set the target of planting half a million mangrove saplings in five years as part of the commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
During the last three years, the plantation achieved a remarkable 90% survival rate. This year, 100,000 mangrove saplings will be planted in Sonmiani.
“The campaign demonstrates our commitment to advancing the United Nations SDGs by contributing to climate change mitigation, restoring coastal ecosystems, enhancing marine biodiversity, protecting critical habitats, and conserving vital natural resources,” stated CS Kim, General Manager and Head of Business Unit at Hutchison Ports Pakistan.
