Man fined Rs1m over inappropriate WhatsApp messages to woman

ISLAMABAD  – The Federal Ombudsperson for Protection Against Harassment (FOSPAH) has imposed a fine of  Rs1 million on a man found guilty of sending inappropriate WhatsApp messages.

According to details, Federal Ombudsperson Fauzia Waqar issued a significant ruling as she declared Hasan Ali Khan Leghari guilty of harassment and imposed a penalty of 1 million rupees for sending offensive WhatsApp messages.

The President’s office also endorsed FOSPAH’s decision.

Hasan Ali Khan Leghari’s appeal against the ombudsperson’s ruling was rejected by the President’s office, upholding the Rs1 million fine imposed by the ombudsperson.

According to the spokesperson for the Federal Ombudsperson for Harassment, Syeda Gulbadan Shahid had filed a complaint with FOSPAH, alleging that the accused had sent inappropriate and indecent messages on WhatsApp.

The accused denied all allegations.

The Federal Ombudsperson for Protection Against Harassment had found the accused guilty of violating the law aimed at protecting women from workplace harassment.

 Following the ruling, the accused appealed to the President’s office, but the appeal was also dismissed.
