Major relief announced for all electricity consumers for July, August 2024

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a major relief for electricity consumers, who are upset over massive hike in power tariff for new fiscal year 2024-25.

The premier has decided to give more time to people to pay their electricity bill as he has directed the authorities to extend date of payment for the bills by 10 days.

In this regard, a notification was issued by the Power Division which orders to all electricity distribution companies.

After the notification, the due date of July and August bills will be extended by 10 days.

Last  month, the PML-N led government officially approved a whopping increase in the base tariff of electricity as per unit price was hiked by up to Rs7.12 units, with effect from July 1, 2024.

Electricity consumers will have to pay the bills in August 2024 under new rates, which will put an additional burden on them amid rising inflation.

A notification issued by the Finance Division said that lifeline consumers using up to 50 units per month will be changed previous rate of Rs3.95 per unit while the per unit price will be Rs7.74 for those consuming up to 100 units per month.

The government has also extended relief to those consuming up to 200 units per month as they will be exempted from the revised rates for three months or till September 2024.

People using units between 200 to 300 per months will see highest increase of Rs7.12 per unit as new price has been fixed at Rs34.26.

Consumers using 301 to 400 units will see an increase of Rs7.02, bringing the rate to Rs39.15 per unit in electricity bill in August 2024.

Those using 401 to 500 units will be charged Rs41.36 per unit after an increase of Rs6.12. For those using 501 to 600 units, the rate will be Rs42.78 per unit, with an increase of Rs6.12.

Consumers using 601 to 700 units, the new rate will be Rs43.92 per unit while for those using more than 700 units, the rate will be Rs48.84 per unit, after an hike of Rs6.12.

The government has also announced new fixed charges for the electricity consumers.
