Lahore High Court has granted permission for markets to extend their operating hours until midnight during the holy month of Ramadan.
Justice ShahidKarim presided over petitions related to smog remediation and directed restaurants to devise parking plans. Notably, the court allowed markets to remain open until 12 midnight on regular days and until 1 am on Saturdays and Sundays.
During the proceedings, the court also took note of reported misbehavior by a restaurant owner towards the staff of a judicial commission. Justice ShahidKarim expressed concern over such incidents, emphasizing the need for cooperation to achieve improvement.
Updates on environmental initiatives were provided, with a focus on cleaning efforts in the Tolanton market. The use of chicken meat in shawarma raised concerns from the Punjab Food Authority.
Moreover, the court’s previous order allowing restaurants to operate from Iftar to Suhoor during Ramadan was reiterated. Justice ShahidKarim emphasized the importance of environmental education in schools, directing a report on the syllabus to be submitted at the next hearing.
