The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday made it clear that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif would be summoned if the matter of judges’ appointment got further delayed.

LHC Chief Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmed Khan passed the order while hearing the case.

During the proceedings, the Punjab Advocate General informed the court that a government committee had consulted with the Punjab chief minister regarding the appointment of judges. He assured the court that this matter had been prioritized for discussion in the upcoming cabinet session.

However, Chief Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmed Khan questioned the timeline for the next cabinet session.

In response, the advocate general pledged that the issue would be addressed in the cabinet session scheduled for Friday.

Later, the court directed the Punjab Chief Minister and the cabinet to issue a notification regarding the appointment of judges before the next hearing.
The court cautioned that if the cabinet failed to issue the notification by the specified time, it would summon the Punjab Chief Minister for the subsequent hearing.

The court adjourned further hearing till May 24.
