Lahore sizzles at 46°C; isolated rains likely to provide some relief

LAHORE – Rain-wind/thunderstorms are likely in Lahore and parts of Punjab on Tuesday night, Wednesday and Thursday. Intermittent rains will gradually reduce the intensity of the heatwave during this week.
Per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a shallow westerly wave will likely affect the upper parts of the country from Tuesday night.
Under these conditions, isolated rain-wind/thunderstorms are likely in Lahore and parts of Punjab on Tuesday night.

On Wednesday and Thursday, rains with gusty/dust-raising winds are likely at isolated places of Murree, Galyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujarat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Jhang and Mianwali. Intermittent rains and gusty winds will gradually decrease day temperatures. At present, day temperatures are 04 to 06°C above normal levels.

Lahore’s maximum temperatures will likely stay between 43-45°C on Wednesday and 42-44°C on Thursday.
Meanwhile, heatwaves prevailed in Lahore and plains of Punjab during the last 24 hours.
Rahim Yar Khan and Khanpur remained the hottest places in Punjab where the maximum temperature was recorded at 50°C. Maximum temperature in Bahawalnagar was recorded at 49°C, Dera Ghazi Khan, Gujranwala, Jhang, Kasur, Khanewal, Kot Addu, Multan and Noorpur Thal at 48°C.

In Lahore, the maximum temperature was recorded at 46°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 08 per cent.
