LAHORE – Police have blocked the exit routes of the Punjab capital with containers as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has given a call for holding protest at Minar-e-Pakistan today, October 5.
Furthermore, containers have also been sent to various locations in Lahore, including the Babusabu Interchange, Thokar Niaz Baig, and the entrances to the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway.
The Babusabu Interchange has been closed to general traffic, and vehicles are also being prevented from entering the motorway at Thokar Niaz Baig Interchange. These roadblocks have caused significant difficulties for citizens trying to travel to Islamabad and other cities.
Roads Closed for Traffic in Lahore
Due to the protest call at Minar-e-Pakistan, containers have also been placed to block roads leading to the Railways Station, the protest site, and the bus terminal, while traffic in other areas of city is largely normal.
Islamabad Episode
A day earlier, PTI supporters and police clashed in Islamabad as Imran Khan’s party wanted to hold a protest at D-Chowk.
Authorities had also sealed Islamabad from all entry and exit point in order to prevent the PTI workers from reaching the protest site, resulting in confrontation. Police used tear gas shells while protesters hurled stones, causing injuries on both sides.
During the confrontation, police also arrested Imran Khan’s sisters – Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan – and shifted them to women police station. The security officials also arrested dozens of protesters during the action.
