LAHORE – Heatwave conditions will likely develop in Lahore and parts of Punjab with 04 to 06°C above normal day temperatures from May 21 to May 23.
As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), heatwave will likely convert to severe heatwave conditions from May 23 and persist till May 27 with 06 to 08°C above normal day temperatures in parts of Punjab.
As per the synoptic situation, a shallow westerly wave will likely affect upper parts of Pakistan on May 16 evening/night. Under the influence of this weather system, dust/windstorms with isolated rains are expected in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Murree, Galyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Sargodha and Mianwali from May 16 evening to May 18.
Possible Impacts and advises: The farmers are advised to manage the crops accordingly. General public is advised to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight. Judicious use of water is requested from all aspects of life. Extreme dry/heatwave conditions may trigger bush fires/forest fires in the vulnerable areas of Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Northeast Balochistan.
