Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Fayyaz Ahmad Dev has been transferred, it was learnt on Wednesday. He has been directed to report to the establishment division with immediate effect until further orders. Fayyaz Ahmad Dev is a grade-21 officer of Police Service of Pakistan (PSP).
He was serving as the Lahore CCPO under the Government of Punjab. On the other hand, the decision of the Lahore High Court (LHC) to reject the petition for the removal of Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) from his post for being a grade-21 officer has been challenged.
An intra-court appeal has been filed in the LHC to remove IGP Rao Sardar Ali Khan from his office. A two-member LHC bench headed by Justice Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal will hear the intra-court appeal on Wednesday (today). Chaudhry Muhammad Arshad Advocate will appear on behalf of the petitioner.
It has been stated in the appeal that IGP Sardar Ali Khan is a grade-21 police officer, and the appointment of a grade-21 police officer as IGP is a violation of Article 11 of the Police Order 2002. “In the appointment of IGP Sardar Ali Khan, the procedure of Police Order was not taken into consideration. Under the Police Order 2002, only a grade-22 police officer can be appointed as IGP.”
The appeal has demanded that the court annul the appointment of Rao Sardar Ali Khan as IGP. The court has also been requested to declare the annulment of the petition seeking removal of the IGP void. Earlier, the LHC had declared the appointment of IGP Rao Sardar Ali Khan legal, rejecting the petition seeking his removal from the office for being a grade-21 officer.
