The bloody communal clashes in Kurram tribal district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa continued for the sixth consecutive day, several more were reported killed as the death toll has mounted to well over hundred with at least 140 sustaining serious injuries.

Hospital officials reported several deaths on Wednesday, along with six injuries. One of the injured, who was attacked during a convoy’s ambush, also succumbed to his wounds, bringing the total fatalities to 52 alone in the incident of firing on the passenger’s vehicles convoy on November 21.

The restive Kurram tribal district, it may be recalled, has been under communal violence as well as tribal infighting for the last several months. The dispute involved two rival tribes who have been fighting over a piece of land. In August last, the two sides had reached a two-month ceasefire after the armed clashes resulted in 50 casualties and wounded 226 others. However, bloody clashes re-erupted over the construction of trenches in the last week of September taking the death toll to well over 70 with more than 300 injured till October last.

However, after the deadly attack on the passenger busses convoy on Thursday last that claimed more than fifty lives including women and children, the infighting intensified, eating up more than 170 people and wounding around 450 people from both the sides till date.
