PESHAWAR – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s caretaker Chief Minister Azam Khan died of cardiac illness on Saturday in provincial capital of Peshawar.
The chief minister was rushed to a private hospital last night after he complained of chest pain. He was kept in intensive care unit due to critical condition but he could not survive.
His funeral prayers will be offered at 3:00pm while he will be buried in his hometown.
Khan was appointed the caretaker chief minister of the province earlier this year after the PTI dissolved the provincial assembly.
The appointment came just a day after the outgoing Chief Minister Mahmood Khan of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Leader of the Opposition in the provincial assembly, Akram Khan Durrani, of the JUI-F agreed on nominating Azam Khan for the post.
Muhammad Azam Khan has had a long and luminous career as a civil servant in the Government of Pakistan.
During his career, he served as the Minister for Finance, among holding other portfolios at the federal and provincial levels. He has also served as the Chief Secretary of KP.
Azam Khan obtained his Barrister-at-Law degree from the Lincoln’s Inn, London.
Status of Caretaker Cabinet After CM’s Death
Experts said that the caretaker cabinet of KP stands dissolved following the death of the chief minister, adding that all powers will now be shifted to KP governor.
