K-Electric (KE) has submitted a provisional monthly fuel charge adjustment (FCA) request for November 2024, proposing a relief of PKR 4.98 per kWh for its customers. The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is set to conduct a public hearing on January 15, 2025, after which a final decision will determine the applicable FCA amount and duration. This marks the third consecutive FCA adjustment benefiting KE customers, following a reduction of 0.16 paisa in September and 0.27 paisa in October.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency-Guaranteed (CPPA-G) has also proposed a negative adjustment of 0.63 paisa per unit in tariffs for XWDiscos, reflecting a broader trend of customer relief due to declining fuel prices. Fuel charge adjustments are routine revisions utilities make to account for fluctuations in global fuel prices and changes in the electricity generation mix.
When fuel prices decrease, as seen recently, the savings are passed on to consumers through reduced FCAs. All adjustments undergo NEPRA’s scrutiny and are reflected in bills accordingly.
