Global Air quality monitors ranked Karachi as second most polluted city in the world on Thursday. According to the Air Quality Index, the amount of polluted particles in air of the port city has been recorded at 274 particulate meters, making it extremely harmful to public health.
India’s New Delhi is at the top of the list while Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka has been ranked third in the latest index for today.
Lahore, the capital of Punjab, has been placed at fifth position in the list of polluted cities in the world with 277 particulate meters. An AQI value of 50 or below represents good air quality, while an AQI value over 300 represents hazardous air quality.
When AQI values are above 100, air quality is unhealthy: at first for certain sensitive groups of people, then for everyone as AQI values get higher.
