ISLAMABAD – Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan has been picked as head of Supreme Court’s newly formed constitutional bench. The decision was made during a meeting of commission, which saw majority vote of 7-5 in favor of the appointment.

Justice Amin Khan, the fourth most senior judge of apex court, will lead the bench that includes prominent judges representing different provinces. Justice Ayesha Malik will join him to represent Punjab, while Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail will represent Balochistan.

Constitutional bench will include Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi, who will represent Balochistan, and Justice Musarrat Hilali, who will represent Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

The meeting was attended by key officials, including Attorney General of Pakistan Mansoor Usman Awan, Federal Law Minister Nazir Tarar, and Pakistan Bar Council representative Akhtar Hussain. Political figures from various parties, including Senator Farooq H. Naik from the People’s Party, Sheikh Aftab Ahmed from PML-N, and Omar Ayub and Shibli Faraz from PTI, also participated in the deliberations.

This decision comes at a critical time for the judiciary, as the newly formed constitutional bench is expected to handle important cases related to the interpretation of the Constitution.
