Representatives of various students and traders organizations, members of civil society and relatives of Osama Satti, the 22-year university student who was brutally murdered by the Counter Terrorism Squad of the Islamabad police early Saturday, on Sunday staged a protest demonstration outside the National Press Club demanding exemplary punishment for Osama’s killers. While chanting slogans against the government, they said it had failed to protect the innocent citizens and has lost the moral right to continue.
They were carrying placards and banners on which were inscribed demand for end to police high-handedness and trial of the accused under charges of terrorism.
Traders’ representatives while speaking on the occasion expressed their concerns over the state of law & order in the country in general and Islamabad in particular.
If this thing can happen in the federal capital we can imagine very well what can be done by police in the rest of the country, said they.
Students’ organizations and civil society representatives also spoke on the occasion and demanded of Prime Minister Imran Khan to send his Interior Minister Rashid Ahmed home as he had proven utterly incompetent and inefficient, they said.
Sheikh Rashid Ahmed earlier visited house of Osama Satti to offer condolences to his family. He termed the murder of Osama Satti a terrible incident and an irreparable loss for the family.
We have ordered an inquiry and place charges of terrorism against the accused, said Rashid while talking briefly to media on the occasion.
To a question, he said the government would do whatever the parents of Shaheed Osama wanted to calm them down. He said it had also been directed that such incidents should not recur.
Meanwhile, the federal government has constituted a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe the death of Osama under Section 19 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.
