RAWALPINDI – The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) expressed optimism that the 2024 general elections would significantly enhance democracy in Pakistan, fostering the realization of the people’s aspirations.
ISPR emphasized that the sacrifices made by security personnel to ensure peaceful elections hold immense value.
The military’s media wing extended congratulations to the nation for the generally peaceful conduct of the elections, noting the absence of violence. It underlined the pivotal role of the armed forces and other law enforcement agencies in providing security during the electoral process, in accordance with Pakistan’s constitution.
The deployment of 137,000 army personnel and civil armed forces across 6,000 sensitive polling stations, along with over 7,800 Quick Response Forces, ensured a safe environment for the public, ISPR stated.
Despite enduring 51 terrorist attacks, particularly in KP and Balochistan, aimed at disrupting the electoral process, security forces remained steadfast in maintaining peace and security nationwide. Tragically, 12 individuals, including 10 security personnel, sacrificed their lives, and 39 others sustained injuries during these attacks.
ISPR expressed gratitude to other law enforcement agencies for their collaborative efforts in safeguarding the democratic process.
The hope is that these sacrifices will not be in vain and that the elections will contribute significantly to strengthening democracy in Pakistan, aligning with the aspirations of the people.
The armed forces reiterated their dedication to upholding peace and security in the nation, pledging unwavering support to safeguard Pakistan’s democratic traditions, as affirmed by ISPR.
Through proactive intelligence operations and swift responses, security agencies successfully neutralized many potential threats, highlighting their unwavering commitment to protecting citizens’ democratic rights. Additionally, five terrorists were eliminated during various operations.
