ISLAMABAD – Schools in the federal capital Islamabad will remain closed on Tuesday due to the ongoing security lockdown ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest and the arrival of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

Private Schools Association confirmed Tuesday’s holiday, citing severe restrictions and security measures implemented across the metropolis, including the widespread placement of shipping containers blocking key roads.

Islamabad School Holidays Update

The lockdown comes as PTI supporters, led by KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur and Bushra Bibi, march toward Islamabad as part of nationwide protests demanding his release. The government has intensified security measures, deploying thousands of police and paramilitary forces, and sealing off major highways leading to the capital to prevent the PTI convoy from entering.

Besides this, roadblocks, mobile and internet services remain suspended in areas deemed sensitive by the authorities. This is part of an effort to limit communication and control the flow of information amid the escalating protests. The capital is heavily fortified, with shipping containers placed across major roads, effectively turning the city into a fortress.

The school closure reflects incumbent government’s concern over potential unrest as PTI supporters converge on Islamabad. The protests are seen as a final attempt by Imran Khan’s party to pressure the government for release after more than a year in jail, facing numerous charges.

Authorities also warned that any attempt by protesters to breach security barriers will be met with a strong response. As tensions rise, both the PTI leadership and the government remain at a standstill, with the outcome of the protests uncertain.

The government’s actions are being closely scrutinized, particularly as they coincide with a state visit by the President of Belarus, adding another layer of complexity to the security situation in the city.
