Islamabad, Rawalpindi weather; rains likely, cold wave to persist

ISLAMABAD – Rains of varying intensities are likely in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Pakistan on Sunday evening/night.

Cold wave will likely prevail and persist across Pakistan till December 14.

As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a westerly wave prevails over the upper parts of Pakistan.

Under these conditions, rain-wind/thunderstorms with snowfall over the hills are expected in the twin cities, upper/central Punjab, Pothohar region, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday evening/night. Cold and dry weather is likely in other parts of the country.

On Monday, mainly cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country. However, rain-wind/thunderstorms with snowfall over the hills are likely in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and adjoining hilly areas. Cold winds are also expected in plain areas of the country during this period.

Islamabad’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 06-08°C on Monday and Tuesday.

Rawalpindi’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 04-06°C on Monday and Tuesday.

Meanwhile, cold and dry weather prevailed over most parts of the country during the last 24 hours. Extremely cold weather prevailed in hilly areas.

Leh, Skardu and Kalat remained the coldest places in the country where the temperature dropped 07°C below the freezing point.

In Islamabad, the minimum temperature was recorded at 03°C. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 93 per cent.

In Rawalpindi, minimum temperature was recorded at 06°C. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 61 per cent.
