Islamabad, Pakistan weather update; rains likely to reduce smog intensity

ISLAMABAD – Scattered rains are likely in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Pakistan on Friday night and Saturday.

Late night and early morning showers will help improve air quality by washing away hazardous pollutants from the atmosphere.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a westerly wave is prevailing over the upper parts of Pakistan and moving eastwards.

Under these conditions, scattered rains with snowfall over mountains are likely in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir on Friday night. Rains are also likely at isolated places in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, upper Punjab and Northeast Balochistan.

On Saturday, more rains with snowfall over high mountains are likely at isolated places in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and adjoining hilly areas. Dry weather is expected in other parts of the country. Smog/fog (in patches) will likely prevail in a few plain parts of Punjab during morning/night hours.

Islamabad’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 11-13°C on Saturday and 09-11°C on Sunday.

Rawalpindi’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 14-16°C on Saturday and 12-14°C on Sunday.

Meanwhile, rains occurred at isolated places in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and northeast Balochistan during the last 24 hours.

Gilgit-Baltistan: Astor 01

Leh remained the coldest place in Pakistan where the mercury dropped 04°C below the freezing point.

In Islamabad, minimum temperature was recorded at 12°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 78 per cent.

In Rawalpindi, maximum temperature was recorded at 15°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 51 per cent.
