ISLAMABAD – Several political parties lamented the absence of level playing field, accusing top government officials of meddling in the electoral process and the election commission took notice of the multiple complaints.
The country’s apex polls body approached the government and the interim setup removed Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon and Islamabad Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Akbar Nisar Khan from their posts.
ECP received several complaints from several political parties, as political candidates witnessed assault and harassment as country heads to polls that are already delayed. The electoral watchdog convened a meeting to address complaints submitted by political entities.
ECP also summoned Establishment Division officials and asked statement for not removing the concerned officials.
To avoid any action or penalty, the government removed IGP and Deputy Commissioner. A letter was also issued from PM office which stated that the premier is pleased to desire that with regard to replacement of deputy commissioner Islamabad and inspector general of police Islamabad, Establishment Division shall propose a panel of officers for his perusal/orders.
