ISLAMABAD – Islamabad experienced the coldest day of this winter season as the mercury dropped 01°C below the freezing point (-01°C ) on Tuesday.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted the prevailing cold wave to persist across Pakistan this week with 04-07°C below normal temperatures.

As per the synoptic situation, continental air prevails over most parts of Pakistan. A shallow westerly wave will likely affect upper parts from tomorrow.

Under these conditions, cold wave will likely prevail in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and most parts of Pakistan on Tuesday night, Wednesday and Thursday.

Light rain/snowfall may occur at isolated places in Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and adjoining hilly areas. Frost is expected at few plains areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Potohar region during morning hours.

Shallow fog is expected at few places in South Punjab and Upper Sindh during morning/night hour.

Islamabad’s minimum temperature will likely remain between -01°C to 01°C on Wednesday and 0-02°C on Thursday.

Rawalpindi’s minimum temperature will likely remain between -01°C to 01°C on Wednesday and 0-02°C on Thursday.

Meanwhile, cold wave prevailed over most parts of the country during the last 24 hours. Hilly areas received significant snowfall.

Leh remained the coldest place in the country where the temperature dropped 13°C below the freezing point. Minimum temperature in Skardu and Gupis was recorded at -07°C, Kalam and Kalat -05°C, Malam Jabba -04°C, and Hunza at -03°C.

In Islamabad, the minimum temperature was recorded at -01°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 91 per cent.

In Rawalpindi, minimum temperature was recorded at 01°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 67 per cent.
