Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s recent visit to Islamabad, Pakistan, marked a significant milestone in strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.

During the dinner reception at the Iranian embassy, Mr. Araghchi acknowledged gaps in coordination between Iran and Pakistan on border security but expressed determination to address the issue. He emphasized Iran’s commitment to combating terrorism, stating, we are with you as you are with us in combating terrorism.

Pakistan and Iran have made significant strides in strengthening their bilateral ties, with a focus on enhancing border management and counter-terrorism cooperation. Recently, the two nations agreed to intensify collaboration on border security and address shared security challenges, demonstrating their commitment to regional stability. This development is crucial, as the porous border between Pakistan and Iran has long been vulnerable to drug trafficking, smuggling and cross-border violence. In addition to border security, Pakistan and Iran have pledged to coordinate joint efforts to eradicate terrorism and extremism through military, security, and political channels. This unified front against terrorism underscores the importance of cooperation in combating regional threats.

Another significant area of discussion is the IP Gas Pipeline Project, which has been stalled for some time. Iran has expressed willingness to engage in dialogue with Pakistan to resolve the issue, potentially unlocking new energy cooperation opportunities between the two nations.

On the international front, Iran has appreciated Pakistan’s strong stance against Israeli aggression and hopes for a unified approach at the upcoming Joint Islamic Summit. This solidarity reflects the deepening partnership between Pakistan and Iran on key regional issues.
