Inter Milan narrowly beat Torino as close wins seemed to be the theme of this weekend’s Serie A fixtures with Napoli and AC Milan also registering close wins.
Fresh off a loss in the Milan Derby, Inter needed to respond emphatically at home. What they got was the complete opposite as their keeper Samir Handanovic had to make a string of crucial saves to keep his side in the contest against a very confident Torino.
With Inter sitting back Torino almost went ahead in the 20th minute through Nikola Vlasic only for Handonavic to parry the effort. The trend continued for much of the second half and a draw seemed to be on the cards until Croatia’s Marcelo Brozovic rose to the occasion.
Nicolo Barella found the midfielder with a pass and Brozovic drilled his shot past Vanja Milinkovic-Savic to rescue all three points for his side.
The win moved Inter to fourth in the Serie A table.
Meanwhile, in another close contest, Napoli moved to the summit of Serie A with a 1-0 win over Spezia. Giacomo Raspadori scored the only goal of the game in the 89th minute as the game looked certain to end in a draw.
AC Milan managed to eke past Sampdoria as well as Olivier Giroud found the winner from a penalty spot in the 67th minute after Filip Djuricic had cancelled out a Junior Messias opener.
