ISLAMABAD – An anti-terrorism court in the federal capital granted bail to former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan in three cases while his PTI vice president Shah Mahmood Qureshi got bail in two cases.
Justice Abul Gasnat Zulqarnain of the anti-terrorism court approved the bail for the founder of PTI and Qureshi. Prosecutor Raja Naveed and PTI lawyers Sardar Masroor and Khalid Yousaf appeared in court.
Prosecutor Raja Naveed opposed the bail petition, stating that PTI leaders intentionally orchestrated protests and incited the public against state. Saying unnecessary leniency is being shown to PTI leaders, he asked the court to dispose of their bail petitions.
At one point, the judge inquired whether Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Imran Khan were present at the scene. In response, the prosecutor stated that Shah Mahmood Qureshi and the founder of PTI were not present at the scene.
Later, the judge approved the bail pleas filed by the PTI founder, Qureshi and other co-suspects in the case. The court has ordered the suspects to submit surety bonds worth Rs30,000 to get their bails confirmed.
Currently, the former prime minister has been kept in Adiala jail on judicial remand in the cipher and other cases.
