LAHORE – Former Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim hinted his return to the international cricket, saying that nobody knew when Pakistan might need an individual.
“I made my decision with full conviction but you never know when Pakistan may need you,” said Imad Wasim while talking to the reporters on Thursday.
The former Pakistan all-rounder openly discussed his retirement from the international cricket.
The statement came from the 35-year-old after he bid farewell in November last year and opted to participate in T20 franchise leagues worldwide.
Wasim affirmed the accuracy of his decision but expressed readiness to return if Pakistan required his services.
He emphasized the necessity for clarity in cricketing approaches as Pakistan strives to progress.
“I want to clarify not as a captain but as a senior player about the direction the team wants to take, where I want to play or where a group of senior players want to take it,” he said.
He further said, “I want Pakistan to play cricket correctly and with the right blend. There’s no regret in retirement,”.
Imad said he was genuinely happy that he was still playing cricket worldwide.
He is currently playing for Abu Dhabi’s Islamabad Night Riders in the UAE T20 league.
Following retirement, he also participated in the T10 league and the Big Bash League (BBL).
It’s worth mentioning that Imad Wasim last represented Pakistan in the T20 series against New Zealand in 2023, surprising many with his abrupt retirement. He initiated his international career against Zimbabwe in May 2015, representing Pakistan in 55 ODIs and 66 T20Is. He secured 109 wickets and scored 1,472 runs in his international career. Wasim remained a pivotal member of the Pakistani team in recent years, contributing to their Champions Trophy triumph in 2017. He also participated in the T20 World Cups of 2016, 2019, and 2021.
