Islamabad High Court on Thursday disposed off a petition challenging the appointment of Chief Election Commissioner Sikardar Sultan Raja, describing it non-maintaianable.

The petition was filed by Akmal Khan Bari through Advocate Sardar Latif Khosa.

Chief Justice Mian Amir Farooq, after hearing arguments on maintainability of the petition, had reserved his judgment in the morning, which was pronounced later in the day.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan, in a statement released after pronouncement of the judgment, described the petition to be based on mala fide, blackmailing and harassment.

“The induction of Chief Election Commissioner was made under Article 213 of the Constitution in line with legal and constitutional requirements,” the ECP statement asserted, recalling that previously both the Supreme Court of Pakistan and Lahore High Court had upheld the induction. Pakistan, Malaysia agree to expand cooperation in diverse field.
